The Need
Breadcoin is a powerful tool created to ensure that underserved communities have reliable access to food. However, we strive to break the stigma that the token is solely for those experiencing food insecurity. The Breadcoin economy is a unifying force that invites all of Baltimore to participate, fostering a community where hunger is destigmatized and everyone can contribute to ensure everyone has a seat at the table.
You can help by purchasing Breadcoins
Choose whether you want to make a one time purchase or a recurring monthly purchase. Each coin is worth $2.50 so every dollar you pay towards your purchase is what you will receive back in the value of the physical coins (besides shipping).
Delivery/Pickup Options
- You will choose a pick up location (options are listed in purchase portal).
- Current Baltimore Pickup Location is Garden Produce (lower floor) in Lexington Market
- If you are purchasing once, you can choose to have your coins shipped (for a $10 fee).
- Monthly purchases are not eligible for shipping and must be picked up at a pick up location.
Distributing Breadcoins Directly
You can give Breadcoins directly to the community to use to buy meals at local vendors. Alongside your purchased coins, you will receive two brochures:
- Advice for Sharing Breadcoins which provides helpful tips on how to best distribute Breadcoins to the community.
- Breadcoin Participating Locations brochure which informs users which restaurants in their area accept Breadcoins.
