Every vendor at The Mill on North has a direct connection to Baltimore’s Westside. These aren’t just food businesses—they’re part of the heartbeat of the community. The Mill is a launchpad for local entrepreneurs, offering support, exposure, and a platform to thrive. The space is designed for connection—with indoor and outdoor seating, weekly events, and partnerships with community organizations across the city. When you visit The Mill, you’re not just eating—you’re investing in Black-owned businesses, small business growth, and Baltimore’s creative economy. They’re more than a place to eat—The Mill is a movement that celebrates culture, creativity, and connection on Baltimore’s Westside.
Breadcoin’s relationship with The Mill began as the grand opening neared in April 2025. One of the businesses that led the charge in making it clear to the community that The Mill “is your space” “your welcome here” was D&B Deli. D&B became our first participating vendor within the new and vibrant West Baltimore food hall. It was D&B Deli that introduced Breadcoin to The Mill’s owners and management. The General Manager, Karla Ransom, quickly became an advocate and champion of the new relationship between The Mill On North and Breadcoin and swiftly each one of the food businesses within The Mill joined the Breadcoin network.

The relationship that Breadcoin and the newly opened food hall had formed took off like a rocket into space with exhilaration, energy, and expectation filling the air. Out of this energy Breadcoin’s Shared Table mission found a welcoming and eager partner at The Mill. Shared Table at its core, we believe in the power of coming together around the table – the notion that by intentionally setting tables in our families and communities, we can bridge divides and share our stories during these tumultuous times. Our work is not just about organizing events; it’s about fostering connection, understanding, and empathy among individuals from all walks of life. The Shared Table movement and The Mill’s celebration of community was a match made in heaven which launched a weekly family style meal around a beautifully decorated table (white table cloth, china, silverware, and table napkins). A group of 6-10 gather and experience a place of love, belonging, and a place where each person can share their story. The table is a place that reminds us that “EVERYONE SHOULD HAVE A SEAT AT THE TABLE”. The weekly Shared Table at The Mill set in motion a visible, attainable, sustainable, and duplicatable mission that Breadcoin believes can be implemented across our nation.

The Mill’s General Manager Karla Ransom has been at the center of the Shared Table’s success at The Mill On North. Karla joins the table weekly as members of the West Baltimore community come around the table and discover new connections and friendships. Out of the numerous ways that Breadcoin and The Mill have partnered to bring dignity to food access, “Friendsgiving” was one of the impactful ways that both the food businesses and the community came together to show love to West Baltimore residents. Friendsgiving was in Karla’s heart and offered an opportunity to turn the WHOLE FOOD HALL into a Shared Table. The opportunity for the food vendors to be highlighted and an opportunity for local neighbors to truly experience the dignity and belonging that the breadcoin economy can make tangible. Friendsgiving was scheduled for 11/15. Lunch was offered from 12-3pm and dinner was 5-8pm. Community members came in, registered at the door, received breadcoins to cover the meal, and sat down at a round table gorgeously decorated with a black table cloth (Karla’s touch of love). After one of the hosts had properly welcomed the community and prayed over the meal and our time together.

Guests, table by table rose and lined up to drop off the breadcoins to a smiling volunteer, grab a plate and walk along the length of the buffet table choosing among the many delicious foods our chefs had prepared. Volunteers moved among the many tables ensuring that every person was recognized, introducing themselves, and ensuring the moment and meal were hitting the spot both in the belly and in the soul. After each guest finished their meal, volunteers cleared the table and proceeded to wash off the plates and silverware. Friendsgiving was a huge success and demonstration of what’s possible when communities decide to come together and set tables where all are truly welcome.

The 151 meals we shared at Friendsgiving represent more than food—they represent 151 moments of dignity, connection, and community. But our work doesn’t stop here. Every day in Washington, D.C., neighbors face food insecurity, and every day is an opportunity to extend our table. We’d like to extend these tables at every food hall in Baltimore!
